Hugh Lane Gallery
Maureen Fleming's Mother and Child was presented in the Hugh Lane Gallery for the Fulbright 70th Anniversary Celebration in conjunction with a panel discussion. Using a doorway as a frame, the video was projected through a rear projection screen giving the illusion of the feminine figure floating in the doorway.
Maureen Fleming's ‘Mother and Child’ is a poignant study of the female body and its relationship to the universal soul's journey. Archetypal and genuine, the work plumbs the depths of human experience, touching the essence of our inner life. The video DVD, created through a series of performances intended to embody Fleming's original choreography for stage, has been used with Fleming's live performance, depicting co-existing levels of reality. However, ‘Mother and Child’ clearly stands alone as a motif of Fleming's unique visual art theater. 'Mother and Child' has been seen in Fleming's interdisciplinary works: "B Madonna", "Waters of Immortality" and "Decay of the Angel" and gallery installations including the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin and the Dance on Camera Festival in NYC.
